Our menu has now grown to over 16 treatments....and frankly, it's become a bit of a mess.

It's hard to believe that today marks 15 years since I first opened the doors to DERMASPACE on Queen Anne Hill.

On that first day, I had just two clients.

One came for a few sessions and then moved on, but the other, Terri, became more than just a client—she became a dear friend. For nearly a decade, she was a regular every Friday until she moved back to her hometown before the pandemic.

Friday's are never the same.

I’m thrilled to still see many clients from that first few years returning regularly, whether every 2 or 4 weeks, each visit is a reminder of the deep connections and shared history & true friendship we’ve built together.

Now that I’m welcoming new clients again, I’m excited about the opportunity to build new relationships and add to that list.

Starting DERMASPACE was all about helping people feel their best in their own skin, and looking back, I’m proud of the strides we’ve made toward that goal.

It’s a mission I’m still passionate about.

I've been a licensed esthetician for over three decades, holding licenses in both California and Washington State. After a few years in Los Angeles, I moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest and opened DERMASPACE in 2009. It was a great honor to be voted best facial in Western Washington by Evening Magazine and listed as the best facial in the PNW by Goop, amongst others.

Where are you from originally?

Born in Los Angeles, raised in SoCal till age 16 then Visalia, CA.

What inspired you to become an esthetician?

I wanted to pursue a career in theater. I used to dance, sing etc but after my first choice of college fell through, I volunteered for a regional reparatory theater company and was placed in the hair and makeup department and it just stuck. I found my calling. I’ve been working in this field since 1991. Life takes you in directions you may not have planned but ultimately find yourself so grateful.

Share an interesting or unique fact about yourself.

I’m a pretty good quilter & photographer. I’m always pursuing new artistic endeavors. Recently it’s been learning to DJ and I started taking piano lessons.  I like my hobbies.

How long have you been a part of the Dermaspace team?

Well….that’s easy…..15 years and counting. I opened the doors on August 9th, 2009.

What do you love most about working at Dermaspace?

Helping others achieve their skincare goals and being a small part helping people feel better about themselves.

Any memorable moments or experiences you’ve had here?

So so many. I have clients who have been coming to me every 2-4 weeks for nearly 15 years so I’ve been there for births, graduations, helping brides get ready for their big day….you name it. Some of my clients are like an extension of my family and have become dear friends. Also helping younger estheticians deepen their passion for skincare…that’s been pretty awesome.

What is your favorite service and why?

Honestly, I am a purist and love our signature Iderm Facial. It’s truly changed the lives of so many of my clients and all the add on services like microdermabrasion or Revitapen etc are just icing on the cake. I also love Collagen Induction Therapy (ProCell Microchanneling and Microneedling).

What’s your personal philosophy when it comes to skincare and beauty?

I founded DERMASPACE on the Buddhist principles of Mettā or Maitrī which means cultivating unconditional loving-kindness, friendliness, amity, goodwill, and active interest in yourself. We understand how hard it can be to deal with skin issues that can affect one’s own self-esteem and well being and believe that self-care and unconditional kindness to oneself is an essential first step in cultivating compassion for others.

What are your favorite Dermaspace skincare retail we carry and why?

Calming Repair Cream because I have such dry and sensitive skin and this is my #1 go to for others suffering from the same thing. I also love our Dual Action Clarifying Pads….a perfect blend of AHA/BHA and gentle enough to use daily.

Share a valuable skincare tip that you think everyone should know.

What works for your friend or someone on social media does not mean it will work for you. Also – don’t just give up on product or service after trying it only once or for a week…..it takes time. Be patient and trust the process.

What do you enjoy most about interacting with clients?

Being part of a team that works together to help them with their goals – I can’t help them if they don’t “show up” so it’s a true partnership.

Can you share a memorable client success story?

So many – but the clients who struggled with severe inflammation/acne who tried everything but finally found a solution at DERMASPACE.

How do you ensure each client has a personalized and enjoyable experience at Dermaspace?

By listening to their needs and educating them as much as possible.

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

Piano, dj’ing, sewing, learning new things constantly. I am also a film and tv junky.

Be gentle with yourself, be kind and use kind language toward yourself.

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of a cherished member of our DERMASPACE family, Christopher Coburn. Christopher has decided to return to Denver, Colorado, to pursue new career avenues and to be closer to his family. His last day with us will be July 8th, 2024.

For the past three years, Christopher has been an integral part of our team, bringing not only his expertise but also his warmth and compassion to every client interaction. His journey in skincare began with personal struggles with acne during his teenage years, which ignited his passion for helping others achieve radiant, healthy skin.

Christopher's commitment to his craft and his clients has left an indelible mark on DERMASPACE. His attention to detail and genuine care have garnered him a loyal following, and he will be deeply missed by both our team and our clients.

Been in Washington my whole life.

What inspired you to become an esthetician?

My passion for beauty started at a very young age. I discovered my love for makeup while in middle school which led me to become a makeup artist during my late teens all the way through my mid 20’s. During that time, I met many knowledgeable estheticians in the makeup industry and soon began to deep dive into skincare. My love for skin grew deeper which led me to pursue becoming an esthetician.

What do you love most about working at Dermaspace?

The team at Dermaspace is amazing! I don’t want to brag, but we’ve definitely got the dream team and such a supportive boss. Dermaspace just feels like a safe space for its employees and clientele!

Share a valuable skincare tip that you think everyone should know.

You don’t have to wash your face in the morning if you cleanse your face in the evening. Try rinsing your face with water or apply your favorite toner onto a cotton round and wipe. Unless you’re a sweaty sleeper or feeling really oily then I would recommend using a cleanser in the morning.

What do you enjoy most about interacting with clients?

Getting to be a part of the client’s skin journey and see all the positive progress. 

Can you share a memorable client success story?

I once had a younger client who was in their late teens that had been struggling with hormonal acne. They were very shy and reserved for the first couple of treatments, but as their skin started to clear they began to glow from inside out. After alternating between chemical peels and microneedling for many months, we were able to clear their skin. Not only did the client reach their skin goals, but they felt amazing.

How do you ensure each client has a personalized and enjoyable experience at Dermaspace?

I love asking questions! Getting to know my clients and their skin goal is my number one priority. We can chit chat about any challenges that you may be facing or even talk about product recommendations depending on their needs. Understanding what my client requires from me ensures that their time spent with us is productive in reaching their goals.

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

I enjoy spending my free time crocheting, using my Cricut to make something fun, or snuggled up in bed watching anime. I’m very much so a homebody.

Do you have a favorite relaxation or self-care ritual?

My favorite way to relax is to change into one of my oversized comfy clothes and put on a good show while crocheting.

Any favorite skincare ingredients or treatments you can’t live without?

My favorite skincare ingredient is Glycolic. Being an acne prone girlie, I have to regularly incorporate some sort of exfoliation in my skin regime to control my breakouts.

What advice would you give to someone looking to improve their skincare routine?

Slowly introduce products into your skincare routine to see if it’s appropriate for your skin type. Start with one product and use it for at least one month to see if there are any reactions, and then introduce another new product within the following month if your skin has tolerated the previous product. For those who are super sensitive, try spot testing behind your ear prior to full use to see if there are any sensitivities or reactions that develop within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Your skin doesn’t define who you are and your beauty lies within. We are our own biggest critics and majority of the time only we notice that break out or concern with our skin. Don’t let that stop you from going out and living your life!
